Austin –Business District Magazine today announced that its guest for Business District Hour, Sunday, August 19th at 3 p.m. CST. will be Jeffrey S. Theibert, Southwest regional director of The Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to educating the public about Federal budget issues and their consequences for the future. Callers with questions for Jim can call (512) 390-1370 during the show and ask questions.
The baby boomers' imminent retirement is ushering in a permanent shift to an older population — and a permanent rise in the cost of programs such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, which already comprise 40 percent of the federal budget. There is no plan to pay for it all other than running up the national debt.
“No one can say when a crisis will hit,” says Thiebert. “But by the time it does the economy will likely be burdened with a debilitating amount of debt; leaving painful benefit cuts and steep tax increases as the only options. Doing nothing to avoid such a gut-wrenching outcome would be an act of fiscal and generational irresponsibility.”
The Concord Coalition was founded in 1992 by former United States Senators Warren Rudman (R-NH) and the late Paul Tsongas (D-MA), and former Secretary of Commerce Peter G. Peterson. The non-profit organization is now chaired by Senators Rudman and Bob Kerrey (D-NE).
